18 Weeks and counting… PDF Print E-mail

Dad felt the baby kick for the very first time.  I’ve been blessed to feel the little one kick and play around since the 14th week.  This really put my worries to rest as I have to wait for my scan until 22 weeks.  Yes, I am very jealous of all my friends who is able to go for scans every 4 weeks.  It seems as if 2010 isn’t just about the Winter Olympics or the Soccer World Cup.  It seems to be another ‘Baby Boom’ year looking at the amount of sonar, 3D & 4D images posted on Facebook!

Reporting to you directly from Merritt, British Columbia – Canada! www.merritt.ca We made it at last and we cannot describe how welcome we feel in our new town.  The people of Merritt truly went out of their way!  Even though we still get lost every day, not only in the supermarket but also on the roads, it feels as if we’ve been here for quite some time!  From and ‘outsider’s’ point of view, I think this town should be awarded the motto of “Friendliest Town in Canada”, if not the world.

So I wrote off the bump I noticed at 8 weeks to the extra doughnut I ate on behalf of the little one.  It was real tasty with white icing and how could I have said ‘no’ when the baby asked me so nicely to enjoy one on his/her behalf?  I will do anything for my children!

11 Weeks and counting.  Although I haven’t been for a scan, I would love to know whether this little one is a boy or a girl.  If we are still in South Africa around the time they would be able to tell us, we will definitely have to visit the Gynaecologist to find out!  We have a definite girl name, but not yet a boy name, although there is one that I favour above all.  I don’t like calling my baby “Baby” or “Little One” or any other one of those.  The minute we found out with the first pregnancy, I spoke to the Nathan continuesly calling him by his name.  See now, at the age of 4, when he is in trouble, he knows exactly who I am talking to!  Looking at the development of the baby by Week 11; baby is now +/- 4cm tall.  Organs are beginning to function – Fingers and Toes have separated – The muscles in the intestinal walls begin to practise contractions that digest food.  At last someone can help to digest all the additional food I’ve been consuming!

What I do NOT want is bouts of morning sickness at night, or any other time of day for that matter.

What I do want is my visa to go to Canada.  Sydney was suppose to start work there on 1 March 2010… yes, that day has come and gone and we are still graciously waiting (ok really not that graciously) for our visas to be mounted in our Passports and sent back to us.  Being ‘late for work’ by days, not hours or minutes is really not the ideal way to start your working relationship.  I can honestly say, this is the most frustrating wait I’ve ever experienced in my life ever!
